For our clients, New York transplants, renovating their bathrooms and kitchen provided an adventurous reset to their new home in Glendale, CA. Nwankpa Design doubled the size of the primary bathroom, while providing a serene oasis of calm and a palette of earth tones was foundational to creating a warm atmosphere, with materials like soft plaster and oak. New windows, doors, rift cut white oak cabinetry, and a custom travertine slab sink create a minimalist spa retreat. A custom green zellige tile mirror with gold sconces on each side completes the look. A second bathroom renovation focused on combining practicality with playfulness to create a space that would suit two sons even into their teenage years. Setting the stage is a custom pattern of handmade dusty pink colored concrete tile that runs from the floor to the wall behind the sink, as well as a bathtub that also features tile, this time with a bit of drama created with zellige terracotta made in Morocco. The collision of patterns and textures speaks to the West African fashion concept of clashing patterns, where layers of colors and textures create dramatic and artfully styled fashion.

For the kitchen, Nwankpa Design created a petite kitchen island to fit the narrow space while still offering extra storage. New countertops and a natural terracotta tile backsplash, in earthy but elegant tones complement the painted green cabinets for a moody and restful palette.
